Okay, this is pronounced ,……  ZHAM -fong ….. just like it’s spelled.          This  is the soup
not to be confused with the singing group  “GIRLS GENERATION”
  Also   very popular  in Korea and elsewhere,   and lately called    … JJamPpong Girls.
Back to the recipe.
If you like hot spicy food and also seafood you are going to love this soup.
2 cups cooked noodles, – I got mine at the H-MART but I think wheat linguine  would be good or whatever you favorite noodle might be
6 cups water
1 small can Anchovies  packed in olive oil NO SALT –    THIS ITEM OPTIONAL
2 OZ NORI – Kelp – seaweed
1 cup mushrooms
2 tbsp. fish sauce
1 large onion  – sliced thin
8 med garlic cloves – smashed and minced
2 tsp grated fresh ginger
4 strips bacon –  minced
red pepper flakes – Okay you are not going to believe this but the traditional recipe calls for …..1/4 CUP… of red pepper flakes. Seemed alittle much even to a guy like me who like hot stuff, So I used a heaping TBSP
1 TBSP sesame oil
1 lrg carrot – sliced thin
2 med Serrano – sliced thin – or the Korean long green peppers if you can get them
Fresh spinach/ Napa cabbage   –    2 cups – sliced
1 cup shrimp
1 cup mussels if you want
1 cup Squid if you want
1 bunch green onion cut into 1/2″ pieces
Mix pepper flake and sesame oil, set aside
In a soup pot,
with 5 cups water add, anchovies,  nori,  mushrooms,  fish sauce and bring to a boil,  then simmer for 15 min.
Meanwhile,  sauté bacon onion, ginger salt and pepper
Add carrots , serrano, pepper flake mix
Stir well sauté 5 min.
Add Spinach and cabbage until  they  wilt.   Pour in broth.
Add Shrimp and other seafood if using . Put lid on and bring to a boil
Turn off heat and add onions
Place some noodles in a soup bowl and ladle soup on top.
Eat and Enjoy !
